1.     What is a “calabash?”  What does she make them from and what does she use them for?

    1.Storage pot. It was made out of long strips of mupfuti tree and sticky sap.
    2.I think lone baboon was in same situation as Nhamo. Nhamo was alone, and a baboon was alone in the wilderness.
    3.Crocodile Guts tells Nhamo to use mukwa wood, because it is very strong.

    Chapter 24 (165-171)
    1. I think It's because Nhamo didn't want baboon to get injured by predators.
    2. It's because without her noticing she started caring about the baboon a little bit.
    3. As I mentioned Nhamo starts to care about him. Maybe it was for fun but I think she had sort of seriousness naming him.
    4. In Nhamo's village, Nhamo was very weak one who did a lot of chores. In baboons' world, Rumpy was the weak one like Nhamo.

    1. Calabash is an pot which is strong. Calabash is made out of a strips of a tree called mupfuti and sap.

    2. They both were very lonely so that because they are both alone.

    3. Crocodile Guts gave Nhamo a mukwa wood to fiw the boat because mukwa wood is very strong.

    1. Maybe it was for the safety.

    2. I think its because she actally cares about him now.

    3. She gives him a name because she actally cares about him like i just said.

    4. In different world, Nhamo and Rumpy was the very weak one. Nhamo in Nhamo's village and Rumpy in baboon's world

    1.Calabash is a Storage pot. It is made out of tree.
    2.They were alone, together Nhamo and baboon, which they had same feeling of lonliness.
    3.Crocodile Guts have gave Nhamo to use mukwa wood to make a boat, because it is very strong, so the ship can stay tough.

    Chapter 24

    1.Nhamo did not want the Baboon to get injured by other Baboons.
    2.It is because Nhamo starts to care about baboon.
    3.It is because she is caring for him. For my prediction, she might pet him.
    4.The life style was kind of same, which Nhamo was seperated into weak side, and just like Rumpy.

    1) Calabash is a strong pot. It is made by trees and sap.
    2)I think Nhamo and baboon were both alone in there.
    3)Nhamo got to use mukwa wood to make a boat from crocodile guts because mukwa wood is very strong .

    1)I think Nhamo didn't want Baboon to get problem and she don't want him to get injure. (I'm not sure)
    2)I think it's because Nhamo accomplished caring about him.
    3)It's because she still cares about him.
    4)They are both weak. Because they did really hard work (chore?) at the place of baboon and Nhamo.

  5. Chapter 23 (158-164)
    1. Cabalashes are small containers that are made out of gourd vines and in the story, she used it to store water and boiled marula juices.

    2. Nhamo didn't want to live on the island alone, not being found forever so she compared herself to the poor baboons, not wanting to stave like the baboons.

    3. Crocodile Guts kept on telling Nhamo to use the mukwa tree to carve the boat so the termites won't touch it since the wood is extremely hard

    Chapter 24 (165-171)

    1. She didn't want the injured baboon to die or to get hurt/injured.

    2. The girl actually started to care about the baboons since they were alone in the island too with her. For example, there were a baboon that were injured and she left some fruits next to the injured baboon to eat.

    3.She gives the name Rumpy to the injured baboon at the Garden Island because something had cut the baboons tail.

    4. Both Nhamo and Rumpy are now lonely in the islands, Rumpy lying down by himself suffering, and Nhamo surviving in the uninhabited island for someones help.

  6. 1. Calabash are a type of holder that holds liquid and it is made out of gourd vines that Nhamo finds in the bush.

    2. Even though Nhamo didn't really like baboons, she feels sorry for the injured baboon who is as lonely as Nhamo.

    3. He said that Nhamo should cut the mukwa tree which is good for the boat's shape.


    1. She attracts that baboon from the small island, because she understood that this feeling of complete loneliness is one of the worst things. She didn't want the baboon to feel the same.

    2. She left fruits for the baboon which he liked, so he would come there for some meal.

    3.Because Nhamo and the baboon-Rumy, became friends and he helped Nhamo survive from loneliness. Also she kind of felt responcible for him, because that baboon was injured.

    4. The similarity between Nhamo and Rumy is that they were both left alone and didn't have anyone to depend on. Both of them were by themselves, so Nhamo overcame her dislike towards baboons and excepted the baboon.

    1. Cabalashes are vessels that holds any kind of liquid that was found in the island;bushes. They are made out of gourd vines.
    2. Nhamo compares herself with the lonely injured baboon. She saw herself just like the baboon which made her think she needs to keep on moving forward until she finds Zimbabwe.
    3. The advice from Crocodile Guts was to carve the boat out of the mukwa tree, since the material is hard, the termites wouldn't be able to eat it.

    1. Nhamo considered the baboon similar as her so she became friends with the baboon. She felt sorrow for the baboon who was injured.
    2. The first time she arrived in the island, she disliked the baboon very much due to the distraction of her survival. When she met the lonely baboon, she started to care as in a good way.
    3. Nhamo names the injured baboon Rumy because she thought it was necessary to name him, and felt responsible for it.
    4. Nhamo and Rumy are basically both lonely, with no one to turn to.

    2. She was able to get the baboons feeling because the baboon was also lonely like her.
    3. The crocodile guts told her that she should make a new boat from mukwa wood because the old one was not a boat that she can ride.
    4. She didn't want the baboon to get hurt or die.

    1. Even though she doesn't notice, she was starting to care fhe baboons.
    3. As mentioned before, she named the baboon because she was carring about them. First she disliked the baboons, but as time went by, sge noticed that the bsboons were like her. They were alone too.
    4. The similarity of Rumy and Nhamo is that they are both lonely.

    2.She compares the baboon and her, that they are both alone and maybe looking for relatives or living things like them.

    1. It is a storage pot for food. It is made from pieces of mupfuti tree.
    2. Nhamo's feelings were same as the baboon, LONELY. I think the baboon was lonely because he was different from other baboon, because he was deformed.
    3. Crocodile Guts told to use mukwa wood to repair her boat because her boat was hard fix by mud and clay, and mukwa wood is strong so the boat will be also stronger than before.

    Chapter 24.
    1. She did that because to keep the baboon safe, to keep the baboon away from his predators.
    2. She made a trap which made the baboon come to the island. The trap was when Nhamo put fruits in lines, towards the island, so the baboon followed the fruit tracks.
    3. Maybe it was weird to call him a baboon, so she named it, which she named it Rumy. And also because she started to care about him, since they felt the same.
    4. They were both Lonely and both week with strength and stuff.

    1. A cabalash is a container or a pot to hold liquid, etc. It is made out of sap and wood from a mupfuti tree. Nhamo uses the cabalash to store her food in the pot.
    2. The baboon and Nhamo were both lonely, and they were feeling the loneliness so Nhamo thought about it, and how they are similar between them.
    3. Crocodile Guts gave the advice to use a wood from the mukwa tree to fix her boat because it was weak and it had been damaged. According to Crocodile Guts, the mukwa wood is stronger and it is better than mud and clay, etc.

    Chapter 24

    1. Nhamo took that action because I think she wanted the baboon to get out of her garden that she made.
    2. Nhamo placed marulas (fruits) into a trail so it would lead it back to the beach.
    3. I think Nhamo gives the baboon a name "Rumpy" because something chopped his tail off. Also, it might be because Nhamo doesnt want to just call her baboon all the time.
    4. The similarities between Nhamo and Rumpy is that they are both left out because of their appearance and their abilities. For example, in this quote: "Everyone took part in this activity--except Rumpy." (Farmer (171).

    3 He said that because mukwa wood is hard and its good to float also the termites wont eat it.

    1. Nhamo lured the baboon away because she wanted him to get out of her new garden she was going to make. But also, I think she had some mixed feelings, and felt sorry for the baboon, since she was in a similar situation as her.

    2. She dumped marulas, which are fruits, so the baboon would eat them, and made a trail, so the fruit was on each rock, leading to the bigger island.

    3. I think she named him because she felt sorry for him.

    4. They are similar, because they are both lonely, and don’t have anyone to be with them. Both of them are lost, and treated badly.

    1. Calabash is a pot looking thing which can put any types of liquid inside and its made out of tree and sap.
    2.They could be together because both of them are left out alone. Nhamo is left out because she lost her way and for baboon, he is left out because he has some problems with his body.
    3.When Nhamo decided to stay in the island untill she fix the boat, Crocodile Guts told Nhamo to use the mukwa wood to fix the boat because the wood is very strong.

    Chapter 24
    1. Because the baboon is already weak from his body problem which means the baboon can be attacked by anything so Nhamo lure the baboon for baboon's own saftey.
    2. Nhamo actually started to care and worry about the cripple baboon because of their same situation.
    3. Nhamo was talking about the other girl in the village who was born with weird body and her totem was a baboon and Nhamo thinks it's the same person(baboon) or maybe she just cares about the baboon because of their same situation.
    4.Rumy and Nhamo are in same situation because both of them are left out. It's just that Nhamo can't be with people and Rumy can't be with other baboons.

    1. Nhamo made the baboon get out of the small island because she needed space to make her garden. Nhamo might have also felt sorry for the baboon because he was alone, and made him stay with the others.

    2. Nhamo accomplishes luring the baboon out of the island by dropping fruits onto a trail that leads to the bigger island. The baboon was hungry that he followed the fruits. I think he wouldn't be able to return because he is scared to go over.

    3. I think she gave the baboon a name because she felt sorry and started to care for him. The baboon had a cut off tail so she named him Rumy. Rumy was similar to Tavizona, so Nhamo might have missed her villagers.

    4. Rumy and Nhamo are similar because they were both lost, and were partly left out. Rumy had a twisted foot, so he was not able to move like other baboons, and in her village everyone hated Nhamo because her father was a murderer.
