Below is an image of Nhamo; compare her photo with the strikingly different image below. How can one say what Nhamo isn't when viewing the different image? In particular I want you to think about how an urban or rural culture can impact an individual. Some aspects to think about are style, clothing, hairstyles and the visual background.
Your response must be TWO paragraphs in length.
The difference between this girl and Nhamo is that, well she is more into fashion, obviously. Which means that this girl was born in a luckier place and has more money than Nhamo. In my opinion this "fashion girl" looks better than Nhamo because she doesn't have to live in conditions in like where Nhamo lives. I think it's obvious but this "fashion girl" picture is more recent than Nhamo's picture.
ReplyDeleteFor Nhamo to look at "fashion girl" it must be like a dream to her to see someone like her. She might like it too much that at one point she might just try being like her. For Nhamo she might be impacted in a bad way because she will realize that she will need straight hair to be like her which might impact her in a bad way. Clothing I think is what will impact Nhamo the most. She might be impressed too much with the clothing and might get a little crazy also depressed when she realizes she can't get it.
You can see differences in the girl and Nhamo. One is their fashion. You could see that Nhamo does not really think about fashion, but wears something that allows her to move around easily. And for the second picture, she is wearing her clothes with a reason. She shows her view from her fashion, which is something that Nhamo cant really do. Mainly because of how they grew up, or how they think about their fasion.
ReplyDeleteAnd secondly is their period of time. From looking at Nhamo, you could see by the art, and by how this is illustrated, that she is more in the 1900's. But unlike that, the girl in the second picture, is more like 2000's. Maybe because of their style in fasion, and maybe because how they show their reaction in the picture. The taste of the second pictures has a more pull toward the early 20's. Which made me think its a more modern picture.

The difference between those two girls are that second girl is obviously more into fashion, which means that this girl was born in a more modern place and has more money than Nhamo. For me, I think the second girl looks maybe a bit better because she didn't have to do all those hard works such as labors which Nhamo did because she didn't have her parents.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the time of those two pictures. As all of us could see in the book, Nhamo was born around 1900 - 1920, but obviously the girl in the second picture is in early 21th century. I could see that the second picture girl is in early 21th century because of her clothing and fashion and hair style.

There are many differences between Nhamo and a girl. 2 things that chose were the accesories and the clothings(fasion). When you see the picture of Nhamo, there is no accesories around her body or her face. But at a girl's picture, there is accesories as like as blacelet. I think the difference caused by their own living environments. Nhamo was borned in Africa and grew up wildly, but the girl at the picture looks like she lived in affluence.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, their clothes. In Nhamo's picture, she's just wearing a fabric clothes. It looks little bit boring. But in the girl's picture, her clothing looks more fasionable than Nhamo's.

ReplyDeleteThe difference between Nhamo and the girl is fashion and hairstyle. Nhamo was born in the 1900's in Africa, and had less money to spend on fashion, but the second girl lived in a modern time which had different trends and more technology to make fashionable clothes. I think Nhamo did not need to wear fashionable clothing as long as it was easy to move around.

The difference nahmo and the girl is that the girl has makeup but nhamo doesnt. And she looks more like a city girl witch nahmo is not. The girls fashion is way different then nhamo. I think nhamo lived in the early 2oth century but i think the girl lives in the 21 century witch is way different.
ReplyDeleteModern days has more technology than nhamo`s age. And the girl and nhamo`s race is different . Nhamo is african but the girl looks more like a europian. And they have much more technology then africans.
The one big difference between Nhamo and the picture below is fashion. Nhamo doesn't really care about fashion so she wears rough clothes. But girl in the second picture does care about fashion. Also the hairstyle is different, Nhamo's hair is very short and looks like a boy. But the second picture, the hairstyle is very different because its not short like Nhamo's hair.
ReplyDeleteI think the time was different so the style and fashion was different too. In the book Nhamo is born in around the 1900's, so I think Nhamo didn't really know what fashion was. The picture below is I think is now days so around 2000~2010.
I think the second picture is very different from Nhamo’s drawing in many ways. First of all, Nhamo’s picture is an illustration, not a photo, like the second picture. That shows a huge difference in technology. Nhamo seems less concerned how she dresses. Nhamo and her people don’t have much money so they didn’t have much choice on what to wear, like the urban people can.
ReplyDeleteAlso, their tribe’s culture was that they probably had to wear the clothes they had and some things to protect them from bad spirits. Nhamo and her people probably didn’t have a choice on what to wear, even though they sometimes might have wanted to wear special clothes.
First of all, by looking at those two images, I can see they were born in different places. Also because of Nhamo's unimproved fashion, hairstyle, it clearly shows what have and have not is. When we see the background of images, Nhamo's background is wilderness. But the other image has white, model background which shows the real modern day's pictures.
ReplyDeleteNot only Nhamo but all the Africans that lived with her, will try to copy the model if they see the image. As an example, in the book, Nhamo had piece of magazine that had beautiful fassioned woman giving her child food. Nhamo imagines her on those clothes and acts as if she is giving food to a child. Just like this, I think every village people will try to be more fashionable when they look at this moderntic image.

The different between Nhamo and the girl is fashion. The girl is more in fashion so the girl has more money than Nhamo. On the pictures Nhamo's hair is short but the othr girl's hair is way more fashionable than Nhamo.
ReplyDeleteIn the picture, Nhamo was from long long time ago so Nhamo wouldn't know well about fashion but the other girl's picture look so knew and she did make up and stuff like that.
There's a huge difference between those two girls, Nhamo and the girl with the cool hairstyle. I can basically tell that the two girls' nationality is different, and if the nationality is different, the technology of that country is not same as other countries too. We can also tell that Nhamo's fashion is different because Nhamo is wearing a robe and the other girl is wearing fashionable clothes with a good hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest different I see in these two images is that Nhamo's image is not photographed, it is drawn or painted. The picture of the modern girl is a photo, not illustrated. The quality is better, such as the contrast, etc. The period is also different, so that would make the biggest difference relating to other differences. In addition, obviously the 2nd picture of the modern girl is taken from a website, so that shows that this picture is from the time where internet existed.

ReplyDeleteFrom the first impression of these two pictures, we can definetely see the difference. The picture with Nhamo is taken around 1980-90s, but the girl on the second picture is from the 21st century. Nhamo has her traditional clothing on, while this girl from the other picture is pretty fashionable. The biggest difference between them is that those two come from different society layers. Can't call Nhamo a regular slave, but she is to her relatives like Aunt Chipo. The other girl is just like us-has her own opinion and a free choice.
ReplyDeleteYet, I would say that there are some similaraties between these two. Both of them have short hairstyle. It's just done in a different way because of the time diference. Also their outfits look familiar because they look like sundresses but just from different generations. I'm sure you didn't post those pictures with no connection.
First of all, by looking at these two different pictures, we can discribe that they are both from totally different places. I can see that Nhamo is a young girl who is really sad and poor person. Unlike Nhamo, the fashion girl seems really haves, clean, and from developed place. Their face, hair, cloth, background, and message is all unlike. Nhamo's picture shows that she is having a problem and sadness. But fashion girl seems very relaxed, and having no problems.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most important and difference between these two pictures is that, how were these two pictures were printed. The picture of fashion girl is photographed, its in high quality, and its from modern day. Instead, the picture of Nhamo is painted, its in low quality, and it seems kind of old. All of these shows the difference of their natures and economy. Not only Nhamo, but there all alot of people who are in same situation as Nhamo is.
This is one of the problem that many african women have.

By looking at this pictures, we can clearly see the difference between the two pictures. Nhamo is poor, and doesn't have much clothes, but the girl in the second picture is rich, and has many clothes to wear. Another thing is about fashion. I think Nhamo doesn't know about fashion, so she wears clothes that are comfortable. The girl in the second picture cares about her fashion.

Well first of all, the women is much more attractive than Nhamo. Nhamo and the women has a huge difference between her hairstyle and her fashion. Nhamo's fashion is very unique, unique by her culture, but it's boring. Also her hairstyle is different because the women has dyed her hair, which shows a huge difference between technology.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason that it is different because the women in the pic is more likely modern. Also as you can see, we do use a boat like Nhamo is using in that pic, but we have submarines and ships these days so I can see differences.

the 2 pic will impact me by:
Nhamos picture impacted me how Nhamo looks stronger, and more natural, comparing to city girls.And they look strong because they do muscle works to live. So Nhamo is a strong girl, and it looks like she does all the thing about her.
The city-model-girl impacts me that they look like they have easier things to do camparing to nhamo. The city girl has better things, and better salary i suppose. The city girl also looks like she doesnt have problems, and nhamo has worry about being zororos wife and stuff.
Nhamo and the fashion girl have a big cultural gap in the sense of that the fashion girl comes from a developed country and have a completely different culture, Nhamo comes from a dusty, old, remote village in Africa plus a completely different culture from the fashion girl.

Money plays a big role Nhamo's family has to hunt and go far away to trade for the sake of their stomachs, the fashion girl girl gets payed big bucks to pose in a dress and doesn't have to work that hard to live.
The difference between Nhamo and the second girl is fashion. I think the second girl has a better look than Nhamo. It is because she was born in a better place. It also looks like Nhamo doesn't really care about fashion. I think most African people don't care about fashion and maybe their tribes culture was that they had to wear those rough clothes. Her hair is shorter than the second girl and looks like a boy. The second girl highlighted her hair too but Nhamo doesn't have any of that.

The difference between the girl and Nhamo is that their fashion is different. Also it tells me that the girl cares about fashion .But Nhamo doesn’t care about fashion. Nhamo has a hair that looks like a boy. Nhamo is poor so she doesn’t have a lot of clothes. The girl can choose what to wear but Nhamo is poor so she can’t choose what to wear. Nhamo’s clothes are plain but the girl’s clothes are fashionable.

It tells me that in Nhamo’s situation, the technology was not developed that much. But in the girl’s situation, the technology was developed. And I thought those pictures are really different because Nhamo's picture is not real picture. The second picture is printed.
Nhamo isn't like the girl in the other picture, because the girl in the other picture is more modern, and she's more like a fashion type of person. As you see in the picture of Nhamo, she has simple clothing and everything she has is simple. While the other girl seems more into fashion sense, and has more fancy clothing and fancy hairstyle. The picture shows no relation, Nhamos image shows sadness, and the other girl shows more relaxing type of image.

Nhamo is poor, and is from a village in Zambia, and the picture or story takes place around the 1990's. The other girl is most likely rich or normal, and she could be from Europe or America most likely, and this picture is most likely set in the 2000's.

Nhamo and the woman has a big difference about their clothing style. The woman wears a clothes that looks expensive. There are some lines in it and it looks attractive and beautiful. On the contrary, Nhamo's clothing looks like a piece of cloth, the color is monotonous and it looks cheap. I think this gap had happened because of their environment.
ReplyDeleteAnother difference is hairstyle. Same as clothing, woman has a good fashion and her hair is dyed. Her hairstyle is cool for a female, but Nhamo looks almost bald. When I first saw the cover of the book, I thought she was an African teenage boy. Maybe, this is because of the culture in Africa.

We can see a quite big difference between Nhamo and the woman in fashion below. Nhamo is a poor little girl who lives in a harsh environment with her other relatives, working and doing chores everyday. The woman in the below might be a kind of person who has an interest in vogue, dressing up everyday, shopping for teen trend and partying every night. They both live in a extremely different environment, Nhamo living in a poor hardworking life with no fashion sense and the woman below, living in a modern lifetime, spending time on fashions.
ReplyDeleteI think Nhamo doesn’t really have much of a fashion interest than the woman below but from Nhamo’s perspective, the woman is her dream, maybe a woman that she sees in her magazines that she nicks from her Aunt, Chipo. The fashionable woman lives in a modern lifetimes like today, and she has more of a way to coordinate herself with different technologies etc.. But, I think Nhamo would want to dress up if she lives in a modern time because when Masvita became a independent woman, she was jealous of her dress that she was wearing.

Obviously, by looking at these 2 different pictures, there are many different aspects to it. Their generation is different; Nhamo was born in 1980s and the picture is illustrated which also makes it ‘old fashion’. In the other side, the woman with a funky hairstyle was probably taken in the 21st century. We can also see that their nationality; where they are brought up are very different. Africa is not very well-developed country comparing to wherever country the other woman is from.
ReplyDeleteNhamo's dream is definitely not a fashion type, a model etc. Although, for the woman, she probably has a great interest in fashion. Our world right now in wealthy countries are well developed, but Nhamo had to face the reality of many conflicts she faced in her life
One of the biggest difference of the person and Nhamo is fashion. The women is dressed like a rock band, has many accesories and looks she has everything that she wants. She was born in a better environment and has the knowledge of. In the other hand, Nhamo has only one cloth which makes her look poor. She wasn't really born in an environment like the girl. Nhamo couldnt afford clothes like her.
ReplyDeleteAnother difference is the time of picture. Nhamos picture is probably from the early 1900s. It is not colorful and is not a picture, but a drawn picture. The girl is from the 2000s. The color is very colorful compared to Nhamos picture.
There are many differences between these two pictures. The first difference is the style of the two people. First of all, the woman from about 2000 or modern day she could get most of the things she want, Nhamo can't do anything and she had to marry when she was young. The woman's hair is wild and mixed up, but Nhamo's is short and very simple.
ReplyDeleteNext is accessories. The woman has accessories but Nhamo does not have anything. Nhamo doesn't need accessories. Nhamo doesn't care about how she looks; she looked at herself in the water but the woman I think she is looking at the mirror every single day. It's probably not important for Nhamo to look at herself, but for the woman it is because she wants to be pretty.
Those two pictures have a lot's of differences. As you know Nhamo is a girl who was living in country side which means the place she was living wasn't really developed. Also Nhamo's look tells many things. Firstly Nhamo's skin is pretty dark compare to the other girl. Secondly the hair, thirdly clothes they are wearing. Which means the girl whit white skin had a life that most of people would be jealous of. So you can predict that white skin girl was probably was born in city with rich parents or maybe some other case. But Nhamo was born in this country side and Nhamo cannot be the white skin girl Nhamo can't take care of her hair or skin or nail like white skin girl because of the situation she is in.
ReplyDeleteThose were the comparsion and how the place you were born seperate people into rich and poor group. My personal opinion is, I am sure anyone would like to live like white skin girl. But there are things that you would learn if you live like Nhamo. Look at the white skin girl. She looks very pretty but also in other way she looks very weak which means if she just left out in the jungle alone (What will Nhamo going to face) I don't think she can survive. My point is doesn't matter which place you were born at you can learn different stuff from different place so if you think it's not fair then you still have to look for what can you learn or get from the place you were born.

The difference of this two picture is that Nhamo picture is a girl who living in country side and it fashion for ancient world and the second picture there style it so rock like punk. Nhamo skin is pretty dark and other girl skin look pretty white. In both this two girl hair style is that Nhamo hairstyle look so ancient people, and the other girl hairstyle look so punk.
