  1. The answers of the questions, who, what, when and why? are actually quite simple to answer.

    1. Who?- Moishe Beadle is a very important foreign person. He is a man who tells the main character many things about God. He is the main character's master. Moishe Beadle is also the man who escapes from the Gestapo and knows what was happening and what would happen to the Jewish if they don't heed his warnings. He tries his best trying to tell the Jewish, but nobody listens to him.
Eliezer is the main character. In the book, Eliezer is also the narrater, but the events happen when he is only twelve years old. Eliezer is Jewish and is eager to know more about his God. He learned many things from Moishe Beadle, but did not believe in Moishe when Moishe warned them what was happening.
Eliezer's father is a serious Jewish man. He is also very respected where Eliezer lived his childhood. Eliezer's father is counted upon on by many and when the Gestapos took control of them, many came to asked what they were to do from him.

What?- At the start, the society in which Eliezer spent his childhood in, Sighet, was actually quite peaceful. There was a war going on, but it was just a distant matter, and not something to really consider. Later though, the Gestapo come to Sighet and take control over it. First they acted politely, but all at once they ordered people around, and threatened to kill them if they did not cooperate. In the last part of the chapter, they go on cattle wagons by the Gestapo.

When?- The whole event is happening in between 1940 and 1945. At this time, Hitler killed thousands of Jewish along with his followers. The main character and his family are Jewish, so were taken away from Sighet by the Gestapo.

Where?- The country that the first part of the story is located at is Romania. In the north-western part of Romania, there was a city called Sighet. The main character spent his childhood at Sighet.

    5. Why?- The events are taking place because the Gestapo are ordered to bring the Jewish to where they would be killed. This occurred because Hitler hated the Jewish so much that he really thought that it was necessary kill them off.

  2. The answer the questions Who, What, When, Where, Why.

Who-Moishe the Beadle is a important character in the story. He helps Eliezar and also tells him stories about God. Moishe the Beadle is one person who escaped from the Gestapo and he knew what will happen to the Jewish people. He tried to warn the people but they wont listen.
Eliezar is a 12 year old boy which is the narrator of the book. He wants to learn more about God and he learns lots of things from Moishe Beadle.
Eliezar's father is a leader type serious man. He is kind of the leader of the Jewish people and is in charge of them.

What-At the first part of the story it talks about Eliezar's childhood. He lives in a city called Sighet and it was a very peaceful country until the Gestapos came to take over Sighet. At the end of the chapter the Jewish people go to cattle wagons by the Gestapos.

When-It takes place around 1940~1945 during the world war time. During the war many Jewish people was killed because of Hitler.

  3. Who- Eliezer is the most important character in this book I think. Also his dad, Moishe the Beadle are important too. Moishe tells the Jews what happened during the Gestapo killed his friends and stuff.

What-In the beginning, Elizer lived in a city called Sighet. He and his father lived together happily until one day, the Gestapos came to Sighet to take over. If you read at the end of the chapter, you can understand that he and the city people had leaved the city and away from the Gestapos, to a small getto.

When- This story was in 1940 to around 1945. This was during the World War II.

Where- This story took place in Sighet, which belongs to Romania. Soon, the story will be taking place in Poland.

Why- Hitler commanded his man to liquidate all the jewish people around him

  4. here is my answer to the questions:

who- Moishe Beadle - a Jewish foreigner that tells about God to the main character, Eliezar. He was a happy man that sang, smiled, but after he got taken to the Gestapo, his personality changed. He was the only one who was able to escape from the Gestapo, and he is the only one who knows what happened at Gestapo. Moishe tries to tell the Jews about what he saw, but no one listens, even Eliezar doesn't believe him.
Eliezar - the main character in the story. He has a father and a mother, 7 year old little sister and an older sister. His family is Jewish, and at this time he is 12 years old.
Eliezar's Father- Eliezar's father is a old Jewish man, who take cares of his family very well. When Eliezar told him about what Moishie told him before about what happened at Gestapo, he gave up that he was too old to start a new life. When his former maid, Maria asked them to move over to their house, a safe shelter, he refused that he would like to stay with his family.

What - Things changes a lot in the first chapter. Before, where Eliezar lived was a peaceful place; with laughter and joy but only until when the Hangarian Police came to the town to take the Jews to Gestapo. At the end of the chapter, all the people doesn't know what is going to happen to them; it was kept secret.

When - it was 1942 when Jewish foreigners were taken to Gestapo, and at spring of 1944, all the Jews wer taken. At this period of time many Jewish people around the world was killed by German police, which was ruled by Hitler.

Where - The place where Eliezar and his family lived is a small peaceful town (only until they were taken to Gestapo) and so people there never thought that the German Police would come to here, where it was not known much. When people in the town herd about the news what it happened to the other places; everybody thought that the fear would never come to them.

Why - Because Hitler hated the Jews, he ordered the Gestapo to take the Jews to where they should be killed; and kill all the Jewish people. They were killed as a aim for shooting for the German Police.

  5. Night-who?,what?,when?, and why?

Who- Moshe the Beadle: He's a very pious person, very much like a poet. When he had seen the tragedy of people creating their own burials he warned everybody in Eliezer's town to take precautions(but everyone ignored him and thought he was crazy).
Eliezer: He's the main charactor and he's also the narrator of the book. He was trying to learn more about he's religion, he studied with Moshe the Beadle to learn more about his religion.
Eliezer's Father: He's a leader of the Jews. He's also a very disciplined man and he's always serious. He also knew a lot about what was going to happen to all the Jews but, he had to keep that a secret or else he would've gotten shot.

What- At first where Eliezer lives: Sighet is a very quiet city full of joy. (Moshe the Beadle had just been experiencing a tragic story.) Moshe then came to Sighet and warned everybody to take precautions (everybody thought he had gone mad). Afterward the Germans came to the frontier of their country and went to Sighet. Everyone Thought bad things were going to happen such as being mistreated but, actually they were nice, only for the first part. Later the Gestapo started mistreating the Jews and they were put into a ghetto. Soon after the Jews were sent as deportees.

When-This chapter was mostly just about 1940~1943 but, I think this whole book will all take place through the entire war (1940~1945) except 1939.

Where- This story takes place in Sighet, Romania. North-west of Romania, near the Iza river. (20,000 Jews were killed from Sighet.)

Why- Well all of this happens because Hitler hates Jews because of child memories. Hitler and the Nazis ordered the Gestapos to liquidate all the Jews by sending them to "camp".

    I'm Enrique for in case.

Who-Eliezer is a jewish kid that has a father than runs a store. Eliezer's friend, Moishe the Beadle used to be happy until he had to be taken away as a foreigner to a place the Galician forest, where getaspo kills people. When Moishe the Beadle escaped, he came back with out a happy face, did not sing, and he warned people about the news about the gestapo killing people.

What- There was world war 2 going on, and 1st, the people in Sighet didnt have any problems until the hungarian police came to take them to a place where didnt know they were going. There was rumors about taken away to work in a brick factory. But Eliezer family decided not to give up.

When- I think this book takes place about 1940~1944. I predict that it will continue until about when the war is over.

Where-It was in Romania, Transylvania, Sighet. Most people were Jewish.

Why-Mostly because of Hitler. He made a group called nazis and ordered the soldiers and getaspo to kill the jewish ppl. or make them work. I do not know why Hitler had to do that......

  7. 1. Who? – The main character of this story, who happens to be the author, was Eliezer Wiesel, who was at the time a Jewish teenager. He was very spiritual, and took Judaism very seriously, studying the Talmud by day, and the Kabbalah by night. He was 16 when he was deported from his hometown Sighet, Transylvania in 1944.
Another important character who me meet in chapter one was Moishe the Beadle, who was a Jewish man who lived in Sighet. He was the Master of the main character and author, Eliezer Wiesel, and taught him the ways of the Kabbalah. He was considered waiflike and physically awkward by the people of the town. He was also one of the lucky people to escape the Gestapo, as when he was going to be shot; he was just wounded in the leg and left for dead.
Eliezer’s dad also had a very important role in chapter one. The people of Sighet held him in very high esteem, and he was a very hardworking, Jewish man. He also was the head of the Jewish Council, which was formed when the Germans came to take control of Sighet.

    2. What? – When we first meet Eliezer, we can tell that he lived in a small, cheerful town that had absolutely no problems. The society was clean, almost untouched by problems or dismay; a very peaceful town. Eliezer and the people of Sighet knew that there was a war going on, but they knew that it was too far away to affect them, and they had nothing to do with it in the first place. That’s why they were nearly stunned to death when the Germans came to their town to deport them off to distant places to work, enslaving them completely.

    3. When? – This story takes place in the early 1940s, specifically 1940-1944 when Eliezer was taken from his home of Sighet. The Holocaust occurred near the end of World War II. Although the war had been going on for some time, this is when the most casualties had occurred.

    4. Where? – In the first chapter, the setting of the story is in Sighet, a small town in Transylvania, Romania. This town is very peaceful, with no problems whatsoever. This is where Eliezer grew up, until the Germans arrived and made them abandon his childhood home. The story also takes place in Poland, where the camps were.

    5. Why? – The main reason for the Holocaust is due to Hitler, the dictator of the Nazi party. He believed that all Jews should be exterminated. The Nazi’s were very powerful at the time, so it wasn’t hard for Hitler to live up to his plan, and to try to kill the Jews in the nastiest, most gruesome way possible.

    Eliezer Wiesel

Eliezer Wiesel was born and raised in the small town of Sighet, Transylvania, Romania on September 30th, 1928. He was very active, and was held at high esteem for his devotion in the Jewish religion. His father, Shlomo, encouraged him to understand humanism and to learn Hebrew literature, while his mother, Sarah, wanted to study the Torah. He said that his father promoted reason, while his mother represented faith. Eleizer had three sisters: two older sisters Hilda and Beatrice, and a younger sister Tzipora. His mother and father owned a grocery store, which was eventually vital to supply food for the Jewish Ghettos.
In 1940, Sighet was lost following the Second Vienna Award. In 1944, the town was divided up into two ghettos. Eliezer and his family lived on the larger of the two, on Serpent Street. On May 16th, 1944, the Germans began to deport the Jewish community of Sighet to Auschwitz Birkenau, a concentration camp in Poland. He was separated from his mother and sisters, and was left with his father to work under devastating conditions and suffer malnutrition. However, after 8 months, his father was beaten by a Nazi who was suffering from starvation, dysentery and starvation. He was later sent to the crematorium, a few months before the camp was liberated on April 11th.
After the way, Eliezer taught Hebrew and worked as a choirmaster before becoming a journalist before migrating to the United States. He wrote 57 books, one of the most famous being “Night”, a book about his survival through the Holocaust. He also gave lectures in the early 1970s about humanism at Boston University, and in 1982 a Visiting Scholar in Humanities and Social Thought at Yale University. In 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his speaking out against violence, repression, and racism.
Currently, Eliezer Wiesel serves as a political activist, and is currently try to help with the peace treaties between the United States and the Middle East. On May 4th, 2010, he met with President Obama to sort out these relations. Due to his survival through the Holocaust, he is held at the highest esteem for his knowledge for humanism.

    Who:

-Eliezer is the main character (the protagonist) of the story. He is a jewish child 12 year old that is learning about their Jewish religion. You can tell that he is narrating the story because this book is a autobiography about the Holocaust. He is learning about his religion with Moishe the Beadle.

-Moishe the Beadle is a guy who knows a lot about God and religion, and is very pious. He is guiding and teaching Eliezer about God. He's a Jew, but he is a foreign Jew. Moishe the Beadle warns the other Jews that the Gestapos are killing the Jews and torturing them, but the Jews don't believe that.

-Eliezer's father is also a pious man like Moishe the Beadle (He is Jewish, of course) He is old and everyone respects his authority.

    What:

-Eliezer and his family are living peacefully in Sighet. No one would expect how and why the Nazis and the Gestapos would exterminate the Jews. Moishe the Beadle had warned them, but they simply ignored. Moishe the Beadle was right. The Gestapos had arrested and took away the Jews and forced them to obey the Gestapos. Now, Jews lived in ghettoes and time after time, they needed to move around Europe as deportees.

    When:

-It takes place in World War II, around the 1940-1945. (I'm sure that the Nazis are still mistreating the Jews after the war)

    Where:

-This setting is in Sighet, Transylvania, Romania. But later, they were forced to leave Sighet and move to Jewish concentration camps and ghettoes.

    Why:

-This is because of Adolf Hitler. He hated the Jews and he was an anti-semetic person. When power rose, he created a society called Nazi. They are all Jewish haters, and they usually kill all the Jews that they see. There were many Gestapos and German authority around Europe that would often seek for Jewish fugitives.

  10. Who- Moishe the Beadle is an awkward, and shy foreigner, and everybody is fond of him, in the place called Sighet in Transylvania. He is Jewish, and he teaches Eliezer all about God. However, one day, Moishe is taken to Poland, where he is about to be killed. Luckily, he escapes and he comes to warn the people of his town, but nobody would listen to him, even Eliezer.
Eliezer is the author of the book, and is the protagonist. He likes to learn about Kabbalah, but he cries when he prays. He goes to two Ghettos and sees violence almost everyday. Eliezer’s father is unsentimental, and does not show any feelings toward anything. However, he is liked by the Jewish community.

What- At the very first part of the text, Eliezer is taught about the studies of Kabbalah. War is going on at this time, and the Nazis were trying to exterminate the Jewish. Eliezer and his family are taken to two Ghettos, and they are going to be transported elsewhere.

When- These events are happening at the time of the Holocaust during World War Ⅱ. It is 1944 when the occupation of Transylvania starts, and that is when the Jewish there had to start wearing yellow stars, and were limited to do things such as going to the restaurants and keeping gold and jewelry.

Where- These events are taking place in Sighet in Transylvania in Romania, which is in Europe. The Jewish are taken to Ghettos and Eliezer and his family are taken to two Ghettos.

Why- The Jewish are getting liquidated because Hitler hated them for being smart and rich. He was a leader of a party, that encouraged people to hate Jews because they thought they were the reason Germany was poor. Hitler told the Gestapo to kill them all, and to put them into death and concentration camps where they would die.

Eliezer’s father - He is a Jewish man who has a important role in the community. He is a serious man, who is respected by other people. He also owns a store that he runs with his family.

What? - At first Sighet was very normal and peaceful society. But then the Gestapo came, and took over. At first they seemed really polite and nice, but after a while they started acting differently, making the Jews leave Sighet.

When? - The story is happening during World War 2, between 1940 and 1945. At the time many Jews were being killed around the world.

Where? - The setting is in Sighet, Romania. Mostly all of the people there are Jewish. Then the Jews are ordered to leave Sighet and go to the concentration camps.

Why? - During World War 2, Hitler tried to liquidate all the Jews. He hated the Jews and made many plans to kill them. Hitler had ordered the Gestapo to bring the Jews so they could be killed in the camp.

  13. 1) who?
-Eliezer is the main character of the story, and he has 3 other sisters, 2 older and 1 younger. He is jewish boy who lives in Romania and he fonds of the man named Moishe the Beadle.
    - Moishe the Beadle is the only survivor of the foreign jews who were taken away. He is a strange religious but poor man. He was so cheerful, and sang songs, but once he came back from the forest, he wasn't the same at all
-Eliezers' father is a very respectful man for the jewish community. He owns a store and he doesn't talk that much.

    2) What?- During that time it was World War 2, and everything was fine till Hungarian police men came to Sighet, and so foreign jews were taken away, and people didn't know for months. Until Moishe came back and he was not the same at all. He went from door to door telling people what he saw and no one believed bim, but he was'nt giving up.

    3) When?- This is happening during the time of the Holocausts, during World War 2. It was the year 1941-1942 in the first chapter and so its most likely to end in the final page, at the end of the war.

    4) Where?- These tragic events were taken place in a place called Sighet, in Romania. The jewish people were forced to move to the ghetto, and there were 2 ghettos there. The one that took place was the larger one which took over 4 main streets.

    5) Why?- The Jewish people were being treated badly all cause of Hitler, and he hated them so much. Once Hitler got control of any country, he would capture all of the jews, and most likely kill them. Hitler would make the Gestapo or the soldiers to get them, bring them to a forest or private place, and then kill them.

These are my responses to the five questions about Night.

    1. Who?
Eliezer is the main character and protagonist of Night. He is the speaker of the story, and the whole story is about his life. He befriends Moishe the Beadle and learns about the Kabbalah and God through him.
Moishe the Beadle is a foreign Jew who lives in the same town as Eliezer. He becomes Eliezer’s master in the Kabbalah and also becomes good friends with him. After he experiences the terrible things during his transport, he comes back and tries to warn everyone.
Eliezer’s father is an old man in the town. He has many ideas that are opposite to those of Eliezer’s. He does not like Elizer studying the Kabbalah.

    2. What?
Moishe the Beadle becomes Eliezer’s master and teaches him about the Kabbalah. Although there is a war going on, their town is not harmed, until one day Moishe and the foreign Jews are taken to another place by the Hungarian police. He escapes from the place after seeing the horrible things happening to other foreign Jews, and tries to warn everyone in the town about what he experienced. Unfortunately, nobody listens to him. Finally, the Gestapo comes into the town. They act very polite at first, but they soon reveal their cruelty. Eliezer and the other people are transported to a ghetto. They soon ride on cattle cars to be taken to another place by the Gestapo, and the first chapter ends.

    3. When?
The story takes time in the period of the Second World War. The Gestapo came to Eliezer’s town and transported all the Jews in the year 1944, which was one year before the end of the war.

    4. Where?
The story takes place in a small town called Sighet, located in Romania. Eliezer meets Moishe the Beadle and learns about the Kabbalah in Sighet.

    5. Why?
The terrible holocaust and the events in Night started because of the Second World War. Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazis, tried to liquidate all the Jews. He developed various cruel methods to kill the Jews. Although he failed in doing it, many lives of Jewish people were sacrificed.

  15. 1. Who- Moishe the Beadle, is an Jewish character in the story, eccentric and shy character who appears to be an important person for the main character to make him devoted to being Jewish. He was also one of the foreign Jews to be taken away before the main character moved out of Sighet, Transylvania it was he whom warned the other Jewish people about the horrific camp.( Where he luckily escaped).

Eliezer- Eliezer is the protagonist and the narrator of the story. He is a 12 year old who is truly interested in his own religion, unfortunately awful events happen to him as he starts to grow interest in Jewish religion.

Eliezer's father- He is the father of Eliezer, who is faithful to the Jewish religion and he is also one of the people who are highly respected in the community. Eliezer described him as a very solemn man.

    2. What- At the beginning of the story, it explains a little about the community being really untroubled until suddenly the Hungarian police arrested Foreign Jews (Moishe the Beadle) however, after that the two ghettos have been created and finally other Jewish people was imposed to move to where the Gestapos will take them.

    3. When- All of these events are occurring during the World War II (1942-1944, so far). Specifically saying 1944 (Spring) is when the imprisoning of Jewish people start in Sighet.

    4. Where-At the beginning of the story, it takes place in Sighet, Transylvania, located in Romania. They will also move to concentration camps were the Gestapo's took the Jewish people.

    5. Why- This is mainly caused by Hitler for his hatred towards Jewish people. Hitler was probably attempting to kill all of the Jewish people with his Nazi Party. But this was no normal party, they took control of the Jews and treated them like dirt and tried to liquidate all of the Jews if possible in a grisly way.

  17. 1. Who? - Moishe the Beadle is one of the most important character in the story as well as Eliezer and Eliezer's father. Moishe the Beadle was the foreign Jewish old man who was considered to be different from other people in the town and that may be the reason why Eliezer, the protagonist, was interested, attracted to him. This old man taught Eliezer about Islam and mainly about God and his thoughts about God. When he was taken away by the Hungarian police, he saw the fate that the Jewish people had to get through by his own eyes and after escaping from the Gestapo by luck, he told every one in the town about it. But no one actual believed him because for them, they preferred to believe what the press and the people around them and not Moishe the Beadle because he was one of the most awkward person for them. In the other hand, Eliezer, who is the narrator of this story and who believes deeply in his religion, tried to believe him just like he did when Moishe was talking about God but actually couldn't because what the other people said seemed more real to him. Neither did his father who had an important role in his community. He was respected by the people in his town and people listened to him.

What?-Sighet was probably one of the most peaceful town until the Gestapo and the Hungarian police came to take over. This sudden arrival troubled the Jewish community. Although in the beginning, they thought nothing would change, the jewish population is deported to the concentration camps.

When?-This story is happening from 1940-1944 which is during World War 2. This is the time when the Holocaust had occurred and a lot of Jewish people were killed.

Where?-The main story is happening in Sighet, a town situated in Transilvania, in Romania. The people are going to be taken to Auschwitz but they don't actually know in the story.

Why?-During this time, World War 2 was going on and Hitler, the German leader tried to exterminate all of the Jews with his party called Nazis. The massacre against the Jewish people by Hitler is called the Holocaust and it will probably one of the most tragic event in history that will hopefully stay in people's mind for ever so that there won't be same mistakes repeated.

Who?- As for me,the author, Eliezer and the Moishe the Beatle were the main characters. Eliezer, who is the author of the novel night, which we are reading, is one of the main characters in that novel because he is the one who is writing the novel, which means he experienced all the events that happened to the Jews between 1940-1945. Also his dad is one of the leaders of the Jews. Secondly, I think the Moishe the Beatle is one of the main characters, because he also experienced some events that happend to the Jews in that time. Moishe the Beatle is one of the foregin Jews, who lived in the Sighet, which is like kind of Ghetto. So, about the Moishe the Beatle, he gets taken away from the Sighet by Gestapo because of only he was a foregin Jew. He almost gets killed by Gestaop, because Gestaop were trying to kill all the foregin Jews after they dug a big hole. However, very fortunately, he pretends that he's dead, and survives from the Gestapo. After that event that happened to him, he tried to convince and explain to all other Jews who he knows that Gestapo are going to kill them all if they don't escape right now. However, nobody listens to him and they didn't even try to listen, so Moishe the Beatle gets really frustrated. After the event that Gestapo tried to kill him, he becomes a really negative person. He used to laugh, and sing randomly, but after that event, he doesn't sing, and he doesn't even laugh.
What?- In the beginning, Sighet, where the Jews and foregin Jews lived on, was a very peaceful place compared to future Sighet. However, the Gestapo comes in, and everything changed. Basically, everything got very worse, and worse by the time passed. First of all, all the Jews and the foreign Jews are not allowed to move after 6 o clock, but it gets worse and wores by the time passes and at last, finally, they need to leave the Sighet, which made them to deportees.
When? The setting of this story, is between 1940 and 1945. As may all people know in these days, there was World War 2 going on at that time. At World War 2, as all people may know, Hitler, who was the leader of the Germany at that time, made a party called Nazi and tried to liquidate all the Jews and disabled people from the world because he thought they were like garbages of human beings.
Where? These events which are happening in this novel, are happening in the place called Sighet, where all the Jews or foregin Jews lived in. The Sighet is in Romania, where Elizer, the author of this novel spent his childhood.
Why? As I have told you, between 1940 and 1945, there was World War 2 going on, and the Hitler, who was a leader in Germany that time, tried to liquidate all the Jews in the world.

These events happened during the terrible dark times of World War 2. The story sets of a little before the war started from the 1944 and on.
    5.Why?
The cause of these darke times is mainly because of Hitler and the Nazi party he controlled. These Germans wanted to take over and kill all Jews. They trapped the Jews making them suffer and one by one killed them as if they had no life. It was a very brutal and dark period.

  22. Eliezer- Eliezer, who is one of the most famous authors about Jewish people and experiences in the world, was born in September 30, 1928. He was a Jewish person, which gave him a lot of experiences. He got grown up in Sighet, and became one of the deportees and had to move from other places to other places, but he spent his childhood in Romania. However, where he spent his child hood, gets destroyed by the Gestapo. Gestapo seemed nice and polite in the beginning but the things went worse and worse by the time passes and finally they had to move away. In one of the most famous novels he wrote, the night, you can see how he experienced about Jewish liquidation.
"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky."

  23. Who – Moishe the Beadle was a Jewish foreigner who didn’t bother anyone. He was physically awkward and was very shy. He was poor and usually, people didn’t like the poor but he was an exception and everyone was fond of him. He taught Eliezer about the Kabbalah and prayed together at the Synagogue. They often had discussions about the Kabbalah.

Eliezer Wiesel- Eliezer is the main character of this story. He is a boy, about 12 years of age, and he comes from a Jewish family. He likes to learn about the Kabbalah and about his God and often visited the Synagogue to pray and learn from Moishe the Beadle, his master.

Eliezer’s father- Eliezer’s father was a cultured man. He did not express his feelings a lot and was unsentimental. He was liked by the Jewish community in Sighet and his advice was asked by many people. He and his wife ran a store and raised Eliezer and 3 other sisters of his. However, he was opposed to Elizer, who was willing to study about the Kabbalah, saying that he was too young to enter the world of mysticism.

What- At the start of the text, it was rather peaceful. However, everything changes after the foreign Jews were expelled from Sighet, including Moishe the Beadle. They were taken away by the Hungarian police to Poland and handed over to the Gestapo. They were all killed but miraculously, Moishe the Beadle was lucky enough to escape. He warned everyone of the things that had happened to him and that they should escape when they had the chance to. Of course, everyone did not believe him, including Eliezer. After that, life seemed to go back to normal. Everyone continued with their lives and doubted that Hitler would annihilate the population. However, the German troops entered the Hungarian land and arrested the leaders of the Jewish community on the seventh day of Passover. From there, the Jews were deprived of everything, from their jewellery to their freedom. They were forced to wear the yellow star and were taken to two ghettos. Then there came the news that they were to be transported. They were taken to a small ghetto for the night but was forced on cattle cars the next day.

  24. When- This part is taking place in around 1941. Eliezer met Moishe in 1941. It was 1942 when Moishe came back from Poland to warn everybody and 1943 passed by when everyone was living a normal life. It was in 1944 when the people started saying that the German troops were coming. In 1943-44, during the Second World War, the Germans were being attacked by many armies including the British and the American.

Where- At the beginning, it took place in the town of Sighet, located in Transylvania, a historical part in central Romania. Romania is located in southeastern Europe. They are going to be taken to Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland.

Why-The Holocaust is believed to have happened because Germany lost badly in the First World War. Hitler wanted to annihilate the Jews, who he thought of as an internal enemy because of their lack of support during the First World War.

  25. Who?- Moishe the Beadle is one of the most important characters in the book so far. He is foreign, and hasidic Jew that works at a synagogue. People did not pay much attention to him, and he was considered as a strange and different man from others. Yet, Eliezer, who is the main character was quite fond of him for some reason. Eliezer seemed to appreciate the fact that there was someone who told him about Judaism and some stories. Eliezer himself seems to have unique aspects as well. He seemed to admire and look up to Moshe. He likes to ask a lot of questions, and the way he looks at the world is inspirational. Moshe is expelled from the small town of Sighet, because he was foreign. He comes back, yet he saw everything that happened to his companions that were deported with him. He comes back luckily, to warn people about the cruelty. People do not listen to him because he is strange. Eliezer's father is a respected man in the Jewish community of Sighet. He is highly relied on as a leader, and he does make a good one. When the Jewish council holds a meeting Eliezer's father goes. He is strong but quite of a calm man.

What?- Everyone was living in Sighet peacefully, since it was a small town with hardly any conflict. As the year's go by some tension grows, due to the things that were happening outside of Sighet. When the Getaspo and the Hungarian police came, people were afraid, yet they were surprised at the politeness and tolerance of the German forces. Yet, things started to change. Rules gradually became more limited, and they also ended up in a ghetto. They were not very scared, until they heard the news that they were going to be deported. Everything basically changed then.

When?- The story takes place in World War II during the discrimination of the Jews. It was a time of true cruelty, when Jews were slaughtered.

Where?-The first chapter takes place in a small Romanian town called Sighet, in Transylvania. The rest of the story will probably take place in a horrible concentration camp.

Why?-World War II started due to Hitler, who was the German Leader then. He wanted to slaughter all Jews, just for discrimination. He had a party called the Nazis. All captured Jews were either killed or was forced to work. It was a horrible event. This act was called the Holocaust. To be clear, my Grandmother was Jewish-German and she was forced to leave her home, and she came to England. Yet, her grandparents were killed. The Holocaust was a really sad event that we should all learn from.

  30. Who-
    Moshe the Beadle
Moshe the Beadle is a foreign hasidic man who has a very strong emotional connection with God. is one of the main characters, or at least a very important person so far in the story. He seems to be the "odd one out" out of all the people and focuses completely on his studies. He could also be called the mentor of the narrator, due to the stories and tales he tells of both his journey with God, and what God has to offer. Later on in the chapter, he was sent to work by the Hungarian police with other foreigners and saw the terrors and treachery of what was exactly happening.
    Eliezer
Eliezer is the main character and narrator of the story. He is the only son of 4 children and was born to an all Jewish family. At the age of 12, he had witnessed all the commotion and was not aware of what was really going on.
    Eliezer's Father
Eliezer's Father is one of the head of the Jewish community. He is a well-respected man who takes his job very seriously. He had been a great influence on both the Jewish community and Eliezer.
    What?
In the town of Sighet, Romania, all was well until the start of World War II. Due to the beginning of the way and the take over by the Gestapos, all
members of the Jewish community were deported either first to to Ghettos, or straight to work.
    When?
This all occurred in chapter one, over 4 years from the beginning of 1941 to mid 1944. During these long 4 years, many jews and foreigners were killed and slaughtered.
    Where?
This story is set in Sighet, North-Western Romania where Eliezer and his family were originally living. Many thousands of Jewish people were deported from Sighet and was taken to Concentration camp, or to a Workhouse.
    Why?
The deportation of Jews was done to please the German-Natzi leader Adolf Hitler. Due to his opinions against all humans who were different, many jews, gypsies and other "different" people were killed resulting in what is now called The Holocaust.

  38. My response to Night

    1. Who

Moishe the Beadle - He is the first character introduced in Night, who seems to have a strong and earnest commitment to Judaism. He becomes Elizer's teacher in the teachings of the Cabbala. In the first few pages of the book however, he disappears because he is taken from his hometown, Sighet, and taken to a camp. Fortunately, he survives and comes back to tell the other people of the horrors that he witnessed, although no one listens to him. This is because he is regarded as a socially awkward character among those in Sighet.

Elizer - Not only is he the protagonist of the story, but he is also regarded as an individual from the author's point of view. Since he became a teenager, Elizer became a fairly religious-centered person because of influence from Moishe, but does not want to believe of the described terrors that Moishe told him about the camp.

Elizer's Father - Elizer's father is a well respected man among the Jewish society that his family is involved with. Some came to talk to him when they were taken by the Gestapo of what they should do.

    2. What

The story starts to take place in Sighet, Romania, which is described as a peaceful town until the Germans attacked and took over. Many Jewish people were killed in this tragedy. Elizer's family and many others were sent away as deportees.

    3. When

This happens in the prime time of World War 2, although Elizer's family as well as other deportees were taken around 1944.

    4. Where

The contents of the story mostly occur in Sighet, although the family is deported. This happened to many other Jewish people at the time, such as getting sent away to death camps or simply to the ghettos.

    5. Why

The German Nazi's and Hitler believed that Jewish people were the 'root' of all problems in Germany at the time. Hitler sought out to believe that the only solution to these problems were to eliminate all Jews, as well as those who were physically or mentally handicapped and homo sexuals. In this way, Hitler thought that Germany would be the world's strongest and most perfect country. While not all Jews in the world were killed, a very large number of people were killed because of this doing.
